Ares Advantage Exera 130CX

MSRP: $119.99 (Catalog No. AZSZ2000)

We understand how frustrating it is for new pilots to be excited about flying, then struggle with first flights. Flying can be a little intimidating at first. Our Altitude Assist Technology (AAT) makes it easy for first time fliers to master 4 channel control, and gives low-time and experienced pilots added confidence to fly in smaller indoor spaces where height is limited. It's all accomplished with state-of-the-art ultrasonic sensors that help the pilot avoid floors and ceilings. Advanced AAT manages the throttle for first-time pilots so that they can focus on learning how to use the other 3 channels without having to worry about running into the ceiling or crash landing. In Mode 2, AAT allows throttle control making it easier to fly freely around the room. The sensors continue to detect the ceiling to avoid over-accelerating the throttle which typically leads to a crash and broken parts to replace. Once your flying skills have progressed to where you're successfully flying in Mode 2, you're ready to move on to Mode 3 where you can fly without the assistance of AAT!

Great Planes U-Can-Do SF

MSRP: $199.99 (Catalog No. GPMA1272)

A big part of what makes the U-Can-Do SF such a great 3D flyer is the removable SFGs. These wing-tip extensions increase airflow over the ailerons, stabilizing the aircraft in level flight, high-alpha and 3D maneuvers. Innovation is what makes the world go round and with the innovative Side-Force Generators on the new U-Can-Do SF, Great Planes helps you get more out of every 3D maneuver than ever before. These SFGs eliminate wing-tip turbulence and increase airflow over the ailerons to give you maximum control authority in high-alpha and 3D maneuvers. And with a striking color scheme and 59-inch wings, the U-Can-Do SF has impressive sky-presence that gets the most "wow" out of every stunt. SFGs aren't all that makes the U-Can-Do SF special, it has dual-tapered wings for extra stability, a light one-piece wing that is easy to transport in most cars and many more features you have to see to believe. The cowl, spinner and wheel pants are molded fiberglass and the landing gear is tough aluminum. A factory-applied MonoKote trim scheme reduces assembly time while adding eye-catching looks. The recommended glow or electric power systems are easy to install and both deliver outstanding performance. A convenient magnetic hatch provides easy access to onboard gear. Hangar 9 from Horizon Hobby, Inc. :: Airframes

Hangar 9 Inverza 62 ARF

MSRP: $749.99 (Catalog No. HAN5195)

The Hangar 9 Inverza 62 ARF airplane is based on the Inverza dream project lead by full-scale aircraft builder Kevin Kimball. Although yet to be built, its announcement has turned the aerobatic community on its ear for its unique blend of style and performance. As a tribute to that bold vision, the Inverza 62 has been designed to deliver an R/C performance revolution with a design that offers a refined blend of precision and hardcore 3D agility. Its two-piece wing connects with a sturdy aluminum wing tube and the ailerons and elevators feature pre-fitted hinges so you can get flying faster. The oversized hatch features a tinted canopy, scale instrument detail and an ideal location for the 30-33% scale pilot figure of your choice. Other great features include factory painted aluminum landing gear, plus a factory painted fiberglass cowl and matching wheel pants. Covered in genuine UltraCote, its balsa/balsa-plywood structure is strong and light, while the original Mirco Pecorari design scheme offers stunning looks, incredible ground presence and high visibility in the air. The Hangar 9 Inverza 62 clearly reflects what has been missing from the world of giant-scale freestyle and precision aerobatics and has all the makings of becoming the next influential design of the scale aerobatics interest. But if you want to add the ultimate in reliability in addition to great handling, match your airplane with the Evolution 62GXi 62cc gas engine with SureFire electronic fuel-injection technology. The result is a level unprecedented performance, the likes of which the 50-60cc class aerobatic category has never seen. So if you want to make a bold impression at your next 3D fun-fly or scale-aerobatics contest, pack the Hangar 9 Inverza 62 and be part of the next aerobatics revolution. Microaces LTD :: Airframes

Microaces Mikoyen-Gurevich MiG-3

Microaces Ltd has added a new aircraft kit to their range in the form of one of the Soviet Union's most distinctive WWII fighters. The MiG-3 is a rarely modeled aircraft at this scale but is one of the most purposeful looking aircraft of the Eastern Front. The kit includes all of the component features expected in a Microaces kit, including the innovative receiver clip-in, clip-out system designed for the Spektrum AR6400 and 6400L type receivers and their successors, the AR6410 and 6410L. However, the real joy of this kit, apart from its performance, is the detailed graphics revealing the intricacies of the Russian fighter. It even has a healthy amount of weathering expected on a combat hardened aircraft of the Soviet Union during the summer of 1941. As always, the instruction manual included in this kit provides a clear, step-by-step method that really is spectacularly easy to follow. And because of the exquisite graphics on the covering material, there is an immediate sense of satisfaction as the parts come together. This makes building very addictive and compelling even before the kit reaches completion. This Microaces kit is an ideal next step for those who have experienced Ready to Fly (RTF) micros but are now looking for something to give depth to their hobby. This 15-inch span MiG-3 boasts scale control surfaces, including ailerons, that provide a very responsive scale performance. Flight is incredibly stable for such a small aircraft especially in calm conditions or indoors, but it also has enough power to tackle more testing weather. Loops, rolls and inverted flight are all very achievable with this aircraft and with the detachable undercarriage the flight envelope of the MiG-3 can be explored completely. With carbon fiber wing and fuselage spars integrated into the build, the resulting aircraft is also very durable and able to resist an enormous amount of punishment while retaining its detailed charm. The new Microaces Mikoyen-Gurevich MiG-3 kit is available to order from the Microaces website and can be shipped globally. It's available as a Standard Kit or as a Deluxe Kit which includes the brushless motor and speed controller. Check the Microaces website for US pricing.

Convair Advanced Designs II

MSRP: $39.95 (Catalog No. AD170)

Published by Crecy Publishing and available through Specialty Press, Convair Advanced Designs II: Secret Fighters, Attack Aircraft, and Unique Concepts 1929-1973, by Robert E. Bradley, is the companion to his highly successful Convair Advanced Designs: Secret Projects from San Diego, 1923-1962. Although the Convair Aircraft Company built some of the world's best seaplanes and bombers during World War II, the company's rise to prominence as a builder of fighters and attack aircraft did not occur until after 1945. This latest book covers these new aircraft types in the same detailed and comprehensive style as Bradley's first volume. Previously unpublished company photographs, models and drawings of such radical concepts as a vertical takeoff ground-attack fighter and giant eight-engine double-decker military transport combine with other futuristic designs, some of which eventually evolved into production aircraft. This 9 x 11.3-inch hardcover book is 176 pages long and contains more than 350 black and white and color photos.

Early US Jet Fighters, Proposals, Projects and Prototypes

MSRP: $49.95

In the aftermath of World War II the development of military fighter aircraft in the USA continued apace to take advantage of a new form of propulsion - the jet engine. With incredibly swift progress, post-war fighter design embraced supersonic types and the early development of the American jet fighter reached its maturity. Design competitions were held which led to the F-87 to F-93 series of fighters and, not to be outdone, the US Navy ran competitions for carrier-based jets which resulted in the Douglas Skyknight, Grumman Panther and Vought Cutlass. All projects resulted in a large number of design studies and proposals including plans for a Navy Long Range Escort Fighter (the abandoned OS-112). Some are quite well known but, following recent access to the papers in the Sarah Clark and George Spangenberg document collections in the US National Archives, many further previously unknown or unseen designs have come to light including new information on the types that were flown. Early US Jet Fighter, Proposals, Projects and Prototypes tells the story of these developments backed up with three-view drawings, manufacturer's models and rare photographs. Appendices illustrate the effort being put into this work during the 1940s and 1950s, by detailing American research establishments and test facilities, chief designers, flight characteristics and a curious one-off study of an in-flight refueling concept.
